Grow Through It
“One day you will tell your story about how you’ve overcome what you’re going through now, and it will become part of someone else’s survival guide.”
Oftentimes, when we are in the depths of a difficult or traumatic moment in our lives, we cannot possibly see how we can make it out. We want to fast forward a couple of years so that the pain is not as heavy. We long to wake up and no longer feel the pain of whatever it is we are facing. While we yearn for the future, I want to share some tips on how to make it to a point in your life where your story is a part of someone else’s survival guide.
Feel. Feel every emotion, every heartbreak, every uncomfortable or painful memory, feel it so that you can go through it, and hopefully GROW through it.
Journal. I know journaling is not for everyone, but when you are in these difficult moments, journaling can be a helpful tool to process and reflect on what you are experiencing. Try to journal, even if it is only for 5 minutes. Eventually, it will become something you can look back on with pride at how you pushed through in the toughest moments, even when giving up might have felt easier.
Go outside. Being in nature can be so healing. It forces you to be in the present moment and take in your surroundings.
Find support. Ask yourself, who are the supportive people in your life? Once you determine who they are, lean on them. It is ok to need support and it is ok to ask for help.
Discover who you are. After experiencing something traumatic, or going through something difficult, we often lose ourselves and forget who we are. Take the time to learn about yourself. Take up new hobbies. Reflect on what it is that you enjoy in life and act on it.
While it might seem impossible, remind yourself that you are capable, and that you will get through this. You will share your story one day and it will be the key to someone else’s success, and someone else’s ability to make it through the difficult times. You got this.
